We are thrilled to report that James Gunn is currently “in talks” to possibly direct Warner Bros. Pictures The Suicide Squad, which Gunn wrote the script for.

You may recall the messy business of Disney choosing to fire the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 & Vol 2 director, and WB hiring him to write their “relaunch” script for a film based on the “Suicide Squad” series of comics.

While unclear if Gunn’s version would be using ANY of the cast from David Ayers Suicide Squad film, WB has used the term “relaunch” not infrequently. The Hollywood Reporter says that sources have said the goal for The Suicide Squad is to “take the franchise in a new direction with mostly an all-new cast of characters and actors,” which will reportedly be “rooted in Gunn’s style”.

THR first reported this news, and we’ll let you know as things progress/get confirmed.

The Suicide Squad has a release date of August in 2021.
