Geoff Johns And Patty Jenkins Are Working On “Wonder Woman” Sequel Together

Unless you’ve been living on an island in the middle of nowhere, chances are you’ve seen or at least heard of the awesomeness that is 2017’s live action Wonder Woman film from Warner Brothers.  Starring Gal Gadot, the first solo female-fronted super hero film has been met with high critical acclaim, and positive audience reactions from around the world.

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins worked her butt off to ensure her film was good, something it seems like the DCEU (DC Comics Expanded Universe) has forgotten how to do.  Even though, yes, both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad made obscene amounts of money at the box office, even the heads of DC for Warner Brothers acknowledge the films had problems.

In an interview with Variety, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg talked a little bit about the success of Wonder Woman, how she shaped up in the superhero boy’s club, and future plans for the Princess of Themyscira films.

When asked if Jenkins was on board to direct, Johns answered rather admirably, neither confirming nor denying, but commenting on her current involvement in writing a sequel:

Johns: Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great “Wonder Woman” film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.

That sounds pretty promising, all things considered. Considering the success of the film it would stand to reason that Jenkins wouldn’t have to jump through the same hoops she did for Wonder Woman in the first place. There was also a question about plans for other notable female DC Comics characters, on the wedge heel success of Wonder Woman: 

Given the success of “Wonder Woman,” do you expect to make more female-driven comic-book films?
Johns: We’ve got a lot of plans for our female characters just because they’re great characters. There are many wonderful elements to the DC Universe, and one of them is that we have the best female characters, heroes and villains, in the world. No one is going to beat Wonder Woman and Batgirl and Harley Quinn.

We already know about the Gotham Sirens film, starring Harley Quinn (still Margot Robbie) and her galpals Catwoman and Poison Ivy being directed by Suicide Squad‘s David Ayer. No set confirmations on casting for either Selina Kyle or Pamela Isley yet, but for WHATEVER reason, Megan Fox keeps getting rumored as Ivy.  There is also always the rumor that someday we’ll get a Supergirl solo film, but we do have confirmed plans for a Batgirl film from director Joss Whedon after his swoop in to finish Justice League for Zack Snyder amid his stepping away from the DCU for family reasons.

Obviously the interest is there for a Wonder Woman sequel, and clearly for the first time, DC/Warner Brothers is listening.
