First Look: Shredder In Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles

….let’s be honest.  The only thing Michael Bay is good at is ruining our childhoods.  And explosions.  Granted, his films LOOK lovely from a CGI standpoint, they constantly fall flat on everything else.  Like plot.

The good:  He DID have  string of successful enjoyable movies in the 90’s, Bad Boys, The Rock, and Armageddon.  Two of which set the tone for disaster films for the rest of the decade.

The bad:  Transformers: Dark Of The Moon clocks in at 152 minutes, and FEELS like every second is wasted.  It also has a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than I expected actually.

His  next film is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which originally reported was going to lose the ‘Teenage” and “Mutant” parts.  Yup, initially they were going to be aliens.  We’ve since learned that’s not the case, or at least their origins will still be tied to a neon green ‘ooze’ as it’s been shown in the trailer.

The thing we CAN’T get over right now is the look of the TMNT villain, Shredder.  This tweet was posted earlier today from the TMNT Fansite, and features a HD screengrab from the latest trailer.

Comments that come to mind right off the bat:  SHREDDER IS A DECEPTICON, HE’S SO EVIL HE STOLE EDWARD SCISSORHANDS’ HANDS, Master Splinter looks a little like Remy from Ratatouille trying to wake up from a kitchen knife nightmare.  He also kind of looks like Lord Zedd from Power Rangers, but one of the special Toys R Us action figure sets from Christmas where he had removable Samurai armor.

What do you think, stupid or awesome?

Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to open on August 8th, 2014.
