“Batgirl” Directors React to Film Being Shelved Indefinitely

We’re all still in a bit of shock after Warner Bros. Pictures made the baffling decision to shelve their live-action “Batgirl” film. All reports agree the film, which apparently cost somewhere between $70-$90 million, was complete. This wasn’t a case of reshoots. This wasn’t even a case of a legal drama-prone lead like Ezra Miller‘s “The Flash,” which, as of today, is still on the release slate.

Leslie Grace as Batgirl, HBO Max

The recent merger of Discovery and WB seems to be the main culprit, at least on paper. “Batgirl” was originally developed as a HBO Max release, bypassing a traditional theatrical release. This decision seemed odd, especially after it was announced Michael Keaton would be making his return as Batman in the film alongside star Leslie Grace.

Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who recently helmed 2 episodes of Disney+’s “Ms. Marvel,” have commented on the situation.

Interestingly enough, Arbi and Fallah’s statement indicates the film was “far from finished,” which is obviously different than the general consensus.

We may never know the real reason “Batgirl” was nixed, but we certainly hope WB changes their mind. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
