Animated “Starfire” Series, “Teen Titans” Movie and More Happening

DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran just gave an update on the slate of in-development and upcoming projects. Some of these were surprising, and some were unsurprising.

The Amanda Waller series starring Viola Davis is apparently still in the early writing phase. “We’ve taken a couple of cracks at it but still haven’t been able land,” Safran said about the scripts.

What about the always-in-development-but-never-happening Booster Gold series?  Well, seems like there almost was a showrunner for that. “Maybe he fell out of love, maybe he got busy,” Safran said, “but we had to pivot.”

And then there is The Authority, which Gunn says “has had a harder time coming along.” He also admits “It hasn’t been much a priority.” Not that we blame him really, with his “Superman” releasing this summer, and cameras rolling on “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”

Which brings us to the confirmed titles, and hoped-for massive release schedule. There is a goal of 7 projects a year over the next 6 years: 2 live-action films, 1 animated film, 2 live-action shows, and 2 animated shows.

“Starfire” (Animated)

“Starfire” will reportedly be an origin story for the character.

“My Adventures with Green Lantern“ (Animated)

“My Adventures with Green Lantern” series will reportedly follow Jessica Cruz, who has her life upended when a Green Lantern power ring falls from the sky.

“Teen Titans” (Unclear if animated or live-action)

Ana Nogueira (“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“) is reportedly developing a script for this project, and no one seems sure if this’ll be animated or live-action.

“Super Powers” (Animated)

Animated series that’ll reportedly follow Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra as students in school headed by Principal Martian Manhunter.

“Krypto” (short films)

A set of 4 short films about Superman’s best friend. These will reportedly feature the same dog who portrays Krypto in Gunn’s “Superman” film that opens later this year.

“Batman: The Brave and the Bold“

Reportedly, the story will follow Batman and his son, Damian Wayne as Robin. A new writer has been brought on, but not revealed. Gunn is “working closely” with them.
