Warner Bros. On-Again ‘The Flash’ Film Gains New Producer

We’ve seriously got whiplash from the on-again-off-again nature of Warner Bros. Pictures much-maligned The Flash solo film starring Ezra Miller.  Last we heard, the flick had been shelved indefinitely, with the most likely reason being Miller needing to have an open schedule for his involvement in the Fantastic Beasts sequels in WB’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter franchise.

It turns out, at least according to The Hollywood Reporter, that things are still in motion for the speedster, as a new producer has been brought on to the project.

In an announcement about Michael Disco launching The Disco Factory Production Company, THR says he’s been brought on to The Flash, joining John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Spider-Man: Homecoming writers) who are reportedly directing the film. There were no additional updates on The Flash, but this theoretically means we should hear something before too long.

Disco said of the announcement of his new production company venture:

“I am so grateful to Toby Emmerich, [New Line president & chief creative officer] Richard Brener, [New Line president & chief content officer] Carolyn Blackwood and [Warner Bros. DC-based production president] Walter Hamada for their incredible support in making this transition happen. I’ve spent my entire career with Warner/New Line and I’m thrilled to be continuing my relationship with the distinguished executives at both companies.”

Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Toby Emmerich commented on Disco’s involvement at WB, saying:

“Michael Disco started working with us at New Line 19 years ago. He’s one of those people you hope will be on your team throughout their career. He has always been passionate about and incredibly talented in both development and production, so it makes sense that he’s chosen to segue into producing. I’m both proud and happy that he will be staying here and making his films at our studio, where he has been a beloved and trusted colleague.”

Disco will also be serving as an Executive Producer on HBO’s upcoming Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark.

Back in 2018, Ezra Miller had this to say about the solo Flash film to Playboy:

“Nothing is ever certain in this world, but as certain as things get, we’re making a f*cking crazy-dope Flash movie. It’s one of my great life dreams, and just the fact that we’re on the way—anyone who knows about Barry Allen knows he may arrive late, very late, but once he gets there, it’s all solved. We have to trust.”
