‘Black Widow’ Production Starts This Summer, Still Looking at R Rating

It’s been a long time coming for fans of Black Widow– a solo film centering around the Avengers team member may start production this summer.

'Black Widow' Production Starts This Summer, Still Looking at R Rating

Last we heard, Marvel Studios was still eyeing a possible 2020 release date for the Cate Shortland directed film which will star Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, that may or may not be hoping for an R rating.

According to Production Weekly, filming is set to begin on Black Widow in June in the UK, with principal photography set to wrap in September.

The notion of an R-rated Marvel Studios film is interesting, and one that may not be impossible after Tuesday’s Disney Q1 earnings call where CEO Bob Iger confirmed the House of Mouse isn’t anti-hard R’s for certain properties, like Deadpool:

“We think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool, as long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.”

Reportedly, the Black Widow solo film will be set during the direct aftermath of the first Avengers film, but very little is known about the possible plot, cast, etc.

We’ll let you know what else we hear about the project. Marvel Studios next two studio releases are Captain Marvel on March 8th, and Avengers: End Game on April 26th.
