You know those times when you are absolutely going to see a movie based on the director, cast, and story, but the trailer is kinda….not great? That’s how we feel about the first look at Ridley Scott‘s upcoming “House of Gucci.” Boasting a slew of Oscar winners and nominees, this MGM flick has had our attention since the first rumblings of it a few years ago.
Based on the book by Sara Gay Forden, “House of Gucci” is inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control.
Lady Gaga stars along side Adam Driver as Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci, respectively. Reggiani notoriously ordered the murder of her ex husband, who had left her for a younger woman. The cast, as we mentioned, is stacked. Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, and Jared Leto round out the rest of the Gucci family.
The first trailer arrived yesterday, and….there’s something about it that just isn’t connecting. Sure, tales of rich fashion icons and their mentally unstable spouses make for great drama, but the hook just isn’t there.
We’re still gonna see “House of Gucci,” probably multiple times. It’s set to hit theaters on November 24th, 2021.
