Report: Is ‘Star Trek 4’ is Shelved Indefinitely??

Earlier today, HBO announced some additional details for their upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, which included the reveal of S.J. Clarkson directing the pilot. Maybe you’re asking yourself what the heck GoT has to do with Star Trek, but, we’ll explain.

Report: Is 'Star Trek 4' is Shelved Indefinitely??

Back in August of 2018, it was announced that Clarkson would be the very first female director to step into the hot seat for a feature film in the Star Trek franchise, as she would be helming the yet-unnamed Star Trek 4, in the JJ Abrams Kelvin timeline.

According to Deadline, who thusfar seem to be the ONLY outlet claiming exclusive knowledge [the other outlets reporting this news are sourcing Deadline, so, yes, the only one] that Star Trek 4 has been shelved indefinitely:

I hear Clarkson was recruited by HBO for GOT after she recently became available. Earlier this year, Clarkson was the first female director to be tapped to direct a Star Trek movie when she was hired to helm the fourth feature in the current series. That project has since been shelved.

Deadline alludes to this film being dropped as the reason Clarkson suddenly became available to direct the Game of Thrones prequel series.

No word from Paramount Pictures or Abrams’ Bad Robot yet on whether or not this is true.

We’ll update as we hear more.
