HBO Max Releases New “Many Saints of Newark” Trailer!

As someone who just finished my…4th rewatch of David Chase’s “The Sopranos,” I’m SO EXCITED for this prequel film. Calling it that is almost a disservice, as the stories we’re going to see in “The Many Saints of Newark” are just as important if not more so than the 6 season original HBO series.

Starring James Gandalfini‘s son Michael Gandalfini as young Tony Soprano, “Many Saints” tells the story of the Soprano family’s rise to power. This new trailer features our first look at Richard “Dickie” Moltisanti (Chris’s dad), Uncle Junior, Livia, and many more important figures in Tony’s life.

Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his impressionable nephew will help make the teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano.

Alan Taylor is directing, from a script written by Chase. Alessandro Nivola stars as Dickie Moltisanti, Jon Bernthal as Giovanni “Johnny Boy” Soprano (Tony’s father), Corey Stoll as Junior Soprano, Vera Farmiga as Tony’s mother Livia Soprano, Billy Magnussen as Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri, and John Magaro as Silvio Dante. Leslie Odom Jr., Michaela De Rossi, and Ray Liotta are also on cast.

“The Many Saints of Newark” slides into “Dune‘s” previous release date of October 1st, 2021 and will hit HBO Max 31 days later.
