Matt Reeves, JJ Abrams, Bruce Timm Developing Animated Batman Series

Remember last year when rumors were rampant that “Batman: The Animated Series” was getting some kind of revival, reboot, revisit with the launch of HBO Max? We have a little more clarity on that now. Instead of bringing back the incredible cartoon, filmmakers Matt Reeves (“Planet of the Apes,” “The Batman“) and JJ Abrams (“LOST,” “Star Trek 09“) are currently working on developing a new Dark Knight animated property.

In truth, it’s kinda like a revival of “Batman TAS,” as Bruce Timm, who co-created with Paul Dini and Mitch Brian,  the cartoon as well as directing several of the iconic episodes, is involved with the project as well. Early reports indicate it’ll be titled “Batman: Caped Crusader.”

Abrams said in a statement about this “re imaging of the Batman mythology”:

“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”

While we don’t know much more than that, we do know HBO Max also has a new “Superman: The Animated Series” in the works as well. More on that soon.
