Fargo Season 4 Looks Unlikely, Says FX Chief John Landgraf

Fans and creators alike of FX’s Fargo have been hoping for a 4th season, but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, FX Chief John Landgraf said Fargo may be over for good:

“There may never be another Fargo. Unless Noah has an idea for Fargo that he thinks he can make as good as the prior three. I think once people get to the end of this [season] they will find that it is thematically different. It’s really about the moment we live in now.”

The show, brought to FX by Noah Hawley (also behind FX series Legion), is based on the Coen Brothers‘ 1996 black comedy of the same name.  The film brought in seven Oscar nominations and two wins, the TV series racking in the Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for two previous seasons.

FX Network has been on a roll with their original content. Critical acclaim, fan chatter, and recognition from award shows have been showered upon the cable network for their programming, with some notable strange choices. Who’d have thought there would ever be a Fargo TV series, let alone three seasons of it?

The third season, airing right now on Tuesday nights (check local listings for times) is once again reminding audiences how a fabulous ensemble cast can be brought together for some of the most ridiculous scenes, but make them work due to stellar writing.

Honestly, this is the type of thing I like to read when it comes to a show that depends so much on storytelling and weaving of the plot lines. As a fan of the show, I would rather end the series as a whole on a high point than have to sit through a subpar additional season after such good television fare.

This is far from the last word on the subject, and hopefully we’ll know more about the future of Fargo after the end of the current season.
