Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn posted an adorable congratulatory message to the Deadpool 2 cast and crew this morning, celebrating their big opening. Opening weekend, not… you get the idea.
The image shows a potted Baby Groot holding a paintbrush, having apparently painted himself Deadpool’s signature red and black hues.
“Enormous congrats to @VancityReynolds, @DavidMLeitch, @RhettReese, @missmorenab & company on Deadpool 2 opening to what looks like over $130 million this weekend. Keep the fun stuff coming,” James Gunn said.

As of this morning, BoxOffice Mojo has the current domestic box office take for Deadpool 2 at $53,300,000 with the total likely to rise as true reports come in.
The sequel did actually break the previous R-rated opening record, bringing in $18.6 million on Thursday night alone, bumping previous record holder It.
Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds posted a thanks this morning as well, mentioning the fans and crew, pets, families, communicable diseases, and more.

James Gunn is reportedly working on completing the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 right now, having posted to Instagram that he’s in the process. Hopefully seeing Deadpool 2 will help his process, but if the previous 2 GotG films are anything to go by, Gunn doesn’t need the help.
Deadpool 2 is currently in theaters now.
