HBO Renews Westworld For a Season 3

Shocking no one, HBO has renewed fan favorite series Westworld for a third season. I say it’s not surprising because with their big series Game of Thrones ending after next year’s season 8, it stands to reason they’d need another popular show to take it’s place.

That’s not saying the Delos Corporation and their automatons would ever actually take the place of Westeros, but it makes sense that this particular drama would be a no brainer additional season pickup.

The series, based on the 1973 film (of the same name) written by Michael Crichton, was brought to life on HBO by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan.

President of HBO Programming Casey Bloys said:

“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew. From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”

This year Westworld has the distinction of being a rare cable series that, with season 2, gives it’s female stars equity in pay when so many other shows are not.

Stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton are the promenant female cast members, who have been vocal supporters of equal pay for their roles on the show.

Season 2 has some pretty big time jumps, filling in the 2 week (14 day) block following the blood bath finale of season 1. While perhaps it’s starting slow, there is every indication it’ll pick up steam like the train into Sweetwater as the season progresses.

Westworld airs on HBO on Sundays.
