Love it or hate it, SyFy the channel has been doing a lot to continue their promise of bringing science fiction television shows back to their model.  With several new series on the horizon including the Superman prequel series Krypton, it stands to reason that they’re not slowing down with the additions to their programming line up anytime soon.

SyFy Gives Series Order For George R. R. Martin's 'Nightflyers'

The newest series order is for another George R. R. Martin novella, “Nightflyers”.  We knew this title was being developed by the network, but not what the result would be.  TVLine confirmed this morning that the project had indeed been ordered to series by SyFy, and that casting had also been confirmed.  (We’d reported on that part previously, but it looks like it’s a done deal now.)  The series will reportedly also loosely follow the 1987 Nightflyers film, so says Deadline.

Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire) will play series lead Dr. Agatha Matheson, Eoin Macken (The Night Shift) will play Karl D’Branin, David Ajala (Fast & Furious 6) will play Roy Eris, Sam Strike (EastEnders) will play Thale, Maya Eshet (Teen Wolf) will play Lommie, Angus Sampson (Fargo) will play Rowan, Jodie Turner-Smith (The Last Ship) will play Melantha Jhirl and Brían F. O’Byrne (Million Dollar Baby) will play Auggie.

    R. R. Martin will EP, no word on if he’ll be writing an episode of the science fiction series.

Nightflyers is being co-produced by Netflix, which will be the exclusive home to the series for viewers outside the US, and will carry the series after it’s first airing sometime on SyFy.
