Kelly Marie Tran is one of the breakout stars of Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Her character, Rose Tico, is at times all of us. This is a short but sweet clip, just over two minutes long, featuring Johnson, John Boyega, and the casting director all gathered in an office.

And, of course, Tran being her adorable self:

While we don’t know what Rose’s future will be in the upcoming (still unnamed) Episode IX being directed by J.J. Abrams, her inclusion in Episode VIII has been a big deal for minorities and fans the world over.

A colleague of mine wrote this wonderful piece about what Tran’s casting and character meant to her as an Asian woman, and I’ve been wanting to share it since she wrote it. You can read Dana’s SPOILER-FREE piece here on her website, thedhk.com.

Unfortunately, Tran has also been the recent recipient of some online hate, in the form of racist comments showing up on her character’s entry on Wookiepedia, the Wikipedia for all things Star Wars. Newsweek covered the jerk-move, stating that Rose’s name was changed to “Ching Chong Wing Tong,” and her home world (Hays Minor) to “Ching Chong China.” A fake quote was also attributed to Rose: “Heil Hitler and I don’t know why I was casted [sic] in a good movie like Star Wars.” Hopefully whoever did these things will return to the cave they normally dwell in.

Please, never change, Kelly. You are delightful, and your joy is infectious.

You can see Tran in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, currently in theaters.
