Replacement Director for Bohemian Rhapsody Announced

After a pretty eventful week for the Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic film, Bohemian Rhapsody.  First, there was the announcement that the production was halting due to the absence of their director, Bryan Singer.  Then, Singer was officially fired from the production by FOX, citing his unexplained multiple no shows to set.  But then yesterday, Singer fired back, stating that the studio was not allowing him to take time off from the production to take care of a sick parent.

Word just came down from Variety that director Dexter Fletcher (Eddie The Eagle, Wild Bill) is coming on board to finish the film.  Reportedly, the production was just shy of 2 weeks to go until completing filming.

The film starring Rami Malek has been in production for a little over two years, after several starts and stops to find the right leading man.  Ben Hardy is playing drummer Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee (“The Hollow Crown”) is lead guitarist Brian May and Joe Mazzello (“The Social Network”) is bass guitarist John Deacon. Lucy Boynton is playing Mary Austin, lifelong companion of Mercury.

Variety goes on to say that production will resume next week in London on the film, and the previously announced release date of December 25th, 2018 is still the target.
