The third season of the Starz hit series Outlander is moving along quickly, the eighth episode of the season airing on Sunday. That means after ‘First Wife’ hits, there are only five more ’til the end.

Claire and Jenny hash out their issues after 20 years apart in “Outlander” s3e8, “First Wife”.

Season 3, episode 8 is titled ‘First Wife’, and as things were set in motion in episode 7, ‘Creme de Menthe’, this episode will revolve around Jamie’s (spoiler) marriage after Claire’s departure 20 years before.  The pair will return to Lallybroch along with Young Ian (John Bell), Jamie’s youngest nephew, after the fiery adventures in Edinburgh.

In one early released scene, we get to see the prodigal son (young Ian) return home to Lallybroch, and the resulting parental freakout. Jenny (Laura Donnelly) and Ian lay down the guilt and frustration to their charismatic young son, not knowing the entire story of what happened to him during the excitement of his uncle’s print shop going up in flames.

    Check out the scene:

The second scene is the highly anticipated union of Jenny and Claire. Unfortunately, the only place to see that clip is over on Marie Claire, so go check it out if you want to see it.

In a massive change from the books, the audience is actually aware of Jamie’s second marriage, thanks to character asides peppered in the last two episodes. As a fan of the books, this change is strange because the reveal is shocking, to say the least.

Each week, the official Outlander Writer’s Room Twitter account (theoretically curated by several of the series writers) answer fan questions on Tuesdays about the previously aired episode. There were several questions this week about the Wife situation, and the responses were interesting.

Yes, strain/discord built in to explore/demonstrate how each has changed after 20 years apart in vastly different centuries. #OutlanderALN https://t.co/tCilj2EYio

And in terms of the continuity issues that may arise from such big changes — don’t worry, they have a plan.

Yes. We have two researchers and a writers’ assistant tracking all changes and continuity. #OutlanderALN https://t.co/4hjKIR4bpZ
