We got another step closer today towards the epic smackdown fight of the ages. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. are continuing to ramp up production on Godzilla vs. Kong as they have signed on Adam Wingard as director. His previous works have been a range of lower-budget independent horror films, with V/H/S and it’s sequel being the best known.

King Kong and Godzilla both represent some of the oldest movie monsters and certainly some of the biggest. Both have had recent reboots with the giant lizard having it’s last turn back in 2014, and Kong: Skull Island hit earlier this year. Each film blew past the half billion mark at the box office, so pitting them back against each other was just a matter of time.

The film’s script has been under way for a while by a stable of writers, with Pirates of the Caribbean writer Terry Rossio as the lead writer. Others in the bullpen include Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Strazynsi.

The movie is slated for a May 22nd 2020 release, but we won’t have to wait that long for a big-monster fix, since the next Godzilla solo film is already underway, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which will be starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown.
