Things got scary during Nascar’s Go Bowling 400 at the Kansas City Speedway as things picked back up after a restart with 69 laps remaining in the race. As Joey Logano’s #22 car headed into turn one, an apparent mechanical failure around his right front wheel caused him to suddenly turn left, hooking into the back right quarterpanel of Danica Patrick’s Wonder Woman skinned #10 car.

That impact caused her to spin right into the outer wall, bursting info flames. The excitement wasn’t over yet, however, as the cars were spinning out of control, Aric Almirola’s #43 car t-boned Logano and shoving Patrick back into the wall. It appeared that he had been pinned into the upper lane and couldn’t maneuver out of the way.

While it looked like Almirola had the least impact damage, and after the crash he had dropped his window net, he didn’t emerge from his car under his own power. Medical teams placed him on a spine board and took him by stretcher to eventually be airlifted out to the University of Kansas Medical Center.

    After the incident, Logano said:

Just saying a lot of prayers for Aric right now. A lot of us took a hard hit. Something broke on my car, I don’t know what it was. I noticed it as I was trying to go in. I tried to back it off but you’re going 215 (mph) and it’s hard to check up. The car just took a bit step sideways into the corner and I hooked Danica. I just hope everyone is okay. I hope Aric is alright. That’s the last thing you want to see, a big hit like that for anyone. It’s unfortunate for everyone. Let’s hope that Aric is alright.
