Breaking: Television Icon Mary Tyler Moore Dies At 80

Television icon Mary Tyler Moore is reported to have passed away after having fallen ill and been on a respirator in a Connecticut hospital for the past week. Her condition had been progressively deteriorating over the past prior days allowing for her family to have arrived to be with her at the end.

A statement made by Moore’s rep, Mara Buxbaum read:

Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine.

A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.

Recipient of numerous awards including six Emmys, three Golden Globes, and a Tony, her career spanned more than six decades, with her roles which would forever cement her into the American television consciousness as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Richards on Rhoda, and then on her own Mary Tyler Moore show. Her last performance had been as Diane in Hot in Cleveland in 2013.

Moore was a Type 1 Diabetes surviver since the age of 33, and has long been the International Chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In recognition of her efforts, the JDRF created the Forever Moore research initiative. The initiative supports the foundation’s academic research and development as well as it’s clinical development program.
