It’s been 26 years since Twin Peaks first appeared to mess with our minds in a cultural touchstone series that arguably really wouldn’t have anything quite like it until Lost. Now we seem to be six months or less away from the new volume’s premiere on Showtime (the original series was on ABC). David Lynch and Mark Frost have both returned to write the new nine-volume season.

To help kick-start the buzz (and to introduce Millennials who might have missed it the first time around and be somewhat confused when their parents start muttering about the Log Lady, the Backwards Talking Dwarf, and someone named Laura Palmer), Showtime is going to begin rerunning the original series in its entirety via Showtime Streaming Service, Showtime On Demand, and Showtime Anytime. They’ve also kicked a new teaser out the door – this one with Lynch reprising his role as Agent Gordon Cole. Show fans will remember Twin Peak’s famous doughnuts and damn fine cups of coffee.

Back in October, Showtime had released a short BTS video which featured several of the cast (Kyle MacLachlan, Jim Belushi, Miguel Ferrer, Kimmy Robertson, Dana Ashbrook, Amy Shiels, James Marshall, Robert Knepper, Chrysta Bell, and Harry Goaz) talking about returning to their classic roles.

Showtime’s press materials has described the show’s return as a mini-series, but nine episodes isn’t far off from a normal season length for Showtime. If the ratings were to hold up, it wouldn’t be at all a surprise to see the denizens of Twin Peaks coming back more than just once.
