What a day for “Game of Thrones” fans. After the announcement was made last night that co-creators and showrunners Benioff and Weiss were leaving their already-announced trilogy in the Star Wars universe (for Netflix), the word that HBO has CANCELLED their “Game of Thrones” prequel series starring Naomi Watts. The potential series was set to take place thousands of years prior to the events of the 8-season HBO series based on the works of George R. R. Martin which recently ended.

According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO elected not to pick up the series, which already filmed the pilot episode earlier this year in Ireland.

Variety added that the cast and crew of the pilot were recently informed that HBO had passed on the project, and that HBO has declined to comment.

The Targaryen prequel series is still in the works, however.

We’ll let you know what else we hear about this.
