George Miller Says “Mad Max: Fury Road” Sequels “Going to Happen”

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything new about the on again off again possibility of any follow up to George Miller’s Oscar winning epic, “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Most of that has to do with ongoing legal issues with Warner Bros. Pictures and Miller, but it sounds like those things may be getting dealt with in a post AT&T merger world.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Miller commented on the WB issues, and confirmed they did NOT (as rumored) stem from former CEO Kevin Tsujihara.

IndieWire: How did you get into this legal wrangle with Warner Bros. over “Fury Road”?

George Miller: It all started because of the chaos at Warner Bros. and not Kevin Tsujihara, it was pre all that. He wasn’t the antagonist, because a lot of people didn’t know what was going on and were not prepared to make a definitive stand; everybody was running around fearful, it seems, through three regimes. It was hard to get anyone’s attention, so we went to litigation. The chaos has stabilized and it’s become extremely positive as the dust seems to have settled after [the AT&T merger].

AND, while answering a question about the existence of those “Fury Road” sequels, Miller confirmed at least 2 projects.

IndieWire: Are there are two “Fury Road” sequels in the works? 

George Miller: There are two stories, both involving Mad Max, and also a Furiosa story. We’re still solving, we’ve got to play out the Warners thing, it seems to be pretty clear that it’s going to happen.

This has us EVERY excited.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” was a groundbreaking piece of cinema, and highly deserved all it’s awards, accolades, and continued obsession from audiences around the world.
