Stargate fans from around the world flocked to San Diego Comic Con yesterday on the chance that the official SG panel would be announcing some BIG news.  That hope was not unfounded, as it was announced during the panel that there would be a brand new Stargate series happening.

Stargate: Origins will kick off a new digital streaming service dedicated to the franchise, which makes sense considering the sheer volume of SG there is in the world.  Check out the teaser they showed during the panel for this new series:

Fans of the original film know who Catherine Langford is, the young girl who witnesses her father uncovering the first Stargate in Egypt.  She subsequently brings in Daniel Jackson (James Spader), and gives him a necklace with the eye of Horus on it saying “it’s always brought me luck”.  This new series will chronicle HER life and experiences with the stargate, answering many unanswered fan questions about her. Early reports state “Catherine will go on an adventure in order to save the Earth from terrifying darkness.”

“We’ve been eager to revisit the ‘Stargate’ franchise, and create an all-new story that honors the founding mythos and gives loyal fans more mystery and adventure,” said Kevin Conroy, president of digital and new platforms at MGM. “We view Stargate Origins as a thank you to fans who have been keeping the spirit of the franchise alive for nearly 25 years. With the increasing popularity of digitally native content that can be streamed to any device, MGM is committed to the production of premium linear mid-form content and are proud to launch with Stargate Origins.”

Mercedes Bryce Morgan will be directing the series, from scripts by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry.

MGM stated we can expect to see this series sometime in the fall.
