Blade Runner remains a pinnacle of Science Fiction film with it’s melding of storytelling and visual achievements (which STILL hold up to today’s standards). A film adaptation of Phillip K. Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Ship”, Ridley Scott presented audiences with a slick noir piece that just happened to be about humanoid robots, Replicants, and the quest for ‘more time’.
Earlier this week, Warner Brothers gave us all an early Christmas present with the release of this first look at the sequel, Blade Runner 2049:
Harrison Ford is returning as Blade Runner Rick Deckard, obviously having ‘survived’ the ending(s) of 1982’s Blade Runner. Other notables joining the sequel are Ryan Gosling is Officer K, Ana De Armas as Joi, and Robin Wright. The film is being produced by Ridley Scott himself, and directed by Denis Villeneueve (Arrival).
Entertainment Weekly’s newest issue contains some images from Blade Runner 2049, and boy are we more excited:

According to a synopsis for the film, the story takes place thirty years after the events of the first movie, with Gosling’s character, Officer K, discovering a secret that has the potential to plunge society into chaos. In order to solve the mystery he now faces, he must find Rick Deckard, who has been missing for 30 years.
There’s no telling from the trailer or images who else we may see from the original. I can’t be alone in hoping that Gaff (Edward James Olmos) shows up, and/or possible glimpses of Rachel (Sean Young) and the familiar Tyrell logo.
Blade Runner 2049 opens worldwide on October 6th, 2017.
