LETS REMAKE EVERYTHING ICONIC AND WONDERFUL! said every single executive this year.  Nothing in the annals of Hollywood is sacred anymore, including The Wizard Of Oz.

Vincent D’ONofrio (Men In Black, Daredevil) will be taking on the role of the Great and Powerful Wizard, The Hollywood Reporter states.  Tarsem Singh (The Cell) will be helming the series, and it’ll certainly be interesting to see what Vincent brings to the man behind the curtain.

Originally slated for the 2013-2014 TV season, initial plans for the series fell through when NBC and original producers Josh Friedman and Matt Arnold couldn’t come to an agreement on what the “vision” of the story would be.  Now, the show has returned, with David Schulner (Dracula) and Shaun Cassidy as producers.

The 10-episode, straight-to-series drama centers on 20-year-old Dorothy Gale, played by Adria Arjona (True Detective), and her K9 police dog who are transported to a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. The series takes place in the fabled Land of Oz in a way never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.
