“Incredibles 2”: Disney Announces Release Date!

It’s long been joked about the only good Fantastic Four movie we’ll ever get is Brad Bird’s wonderful The Incredibles.  After this year’s stunning disappointment from Fox and Josh Trank, we were beginning to lose all hope about our favorite superhero nuclear family.

Thankfully, Disney had an ace up their sleeve, and today announced a release date for the upcoming sequel.  Incredibles 2 won’t see the theaters til June 21st, 2019., but it’s great news for fans of Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, JakJak, and the real hero, FROZONE!  Seriously, I’m looking forward to some kind of Frozen joke that Samuel L Jackson’s frosty character has to deal with.

When asked in a recent interview, director Brad Bird said of the sequel:

But what’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out.  One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we’re having a good time.

This also means that like the big Marvel film announcement this morning, the upcoming Disney release date list will be changing.  Pixar’s Toy Story 4 is moving from June 2017 to June 15, 2018; Cars 3 takes that June 16, 2017, spot. The previously untitled Nov. 22, 2017 Pixar feature is now called Coco.  Disney Animation’s “Gigantic” will arrive March 9, 2018.
