“The X Files”: Fox Releases Official Trailer

I just…..I can’t be excited about this. X Files, for the longest time, was MY show. In many ways, it still is. Maybe that’s why as a fan, I’m offended by the thought going back to these characters is a good idea. Carter did such a disservice to his 9 years of series with that horrible second film. I gave it the benefit of the doubt- I was so excited for that movie, and it left me so angry and depressed. Where were MY characters? Where was that spark?

Fox just released the “official” trailer for the revisit, after a short promo appeared this morning. This trailer leaves me questioning if I may have been right with my throw away joke made in the company of tv writers and critics.  “What if Chris Carter is bringing X Files back simply because Lynch is bringing Twin Peaks back?”  Really think about that.  So much of the reviewer community for YEARS compared David Duchovny’s Agent Fox Mulder to Kyle Mclanahan’s Agent Cooper, saying series creator Carter had pretty much lifted the core of the character for his sci fi tale.  (But if you know the show, you know it’s REALLY based on Kolchak the Nightstalker!)

Maybe I should be mad at the editor instead of the trailer.  The beautiful Gillian Anderson as Scully breathlessly answering the phone in the signature “Scully just got hit with a bombshell” comes out of nowhere, and loses all practical impact on seasoned fans.  Maybe it’s the bland, completely emotionless faces and delivery of the clips chosen, and maybe it’s the thrice dead CSM making a cameo at the end.  I don’t know.

I’m not ready to have my heart broken again, DO YOU HEAR ME CHRIS CARTER?
