10 Haunting Images from Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein”

When Guillermo del Toro announced he was FINALLY going to do his adaptation of Frankenstein, we were immediately interested. Knowing GdT’s love for the source material, as well as the iconic imagery of artist Bernie Wrightson‘s take on the story, there’s no way this won’t be a visual and haunting spectacle.

This morning, Vanity Fair released a slew of images from their visit to the absolutely INCREDIBLE set, as well as some first looks at the cast in full hair and makeup.

And let’s just take a minute to applaud production designer Tamara Deverell‘s work in these photos by Ken Woroner.

“We are just doing a beautiful mass. The church is not built by us, but we are delivering a great, passionate soul-searing sermon in that church,” GdT says. “Karloff looms eternal. Bernie looms eternal. But we are not doing Karloff and we’re not doing Bernie, and we’re not doing Mary. But I’ll say this: Mary Shelley and Bernie Wrightson and Karloff are as important to me as my father and mother. They gave birth to who I am, period.”

Jacob Elordi (“Saltburn”) will play Adam/The Monster, alongside  Oscar Isaac (“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”) as Victor Frankenstein. Mia Goth (“Pearl”), Christoph Waltz (“Most Dangerous Game”), Felix Kammerer (“All Quiet on the Western Front”), Lars Mikkelsen (“Ahsoka”), David Bradley (“Pinocchio”), Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones“), and Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth”) also star.

del Toro is writing, directing, and producing the film for Netflix, alongside J. Miles Dale. The duo previously worked together on “Cabinet of Curiosities,” which was also created for Netflix.

“Frankenstein” will have it’s world debut during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) later this year. It will hit Netflix in November.
