Stephen King Writing Script for Mike Flanagan’s “The Dark Tower”

This is the kind of news we love to be able to share. After two attempts- one failed series that never made it to air and one feature film that wasn’t….great- Stephen King‘s “The Dark Tower” may finally get the adaptation it deserves.

Mike Flanagan, the de facto adapter of King’s works, revealed a deal to revive the property as a series for Amazon Prime Video. “Predating our deal with Amazon, we acquired the rights to ‘The Dark Tower,’ which if you know anything about me, you know it has been my Holy Grail of a project for most of my life,” Flanagan said. “We actually have those rights carved out of our Amazon deal, which doesn’t mean that they can’t or won’t get behind it at some point — you don’t know. But that’s something we’ve been developing ourselves and are really passionate about finally getting it up on its feet at some point.”

Okay, that was back in 2022. But what about today’s news?!

King was doing press for Osgood Perkins‘ newly released NEON film “The Monkey,” which is an adaptation of a King short story. During a roundtable interview, IGN asked King if he’d be interested in contributing anything new to Flanagan’s adaptation of “The Dark Tower.” (King did write some new material for Paramount+’s “The Stand” limited series.)

“All I can say is it’s happening,” King revealed. “I am writing stuff now and I think that’s all I want to say because the next thing you know, I’ll stir up a bunch of stuff I don’t necessarily want to stir up yet. I’m in process right now, and to say too much feels like a jinx.”

    Hell. Yes.

King also recently returned to activity on X (formerly Twitter), so hopefully we’ll get more news about this project soon.

I’m baaaack! Did you miss me?
