We are so delighted to share the news that Nickelodeon has indeed greenlit a brand new animated series in the world of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” The series, which continues to grow in fandom and acclaim, is actually celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year.

The new show, called “Avatar: Seven Havens,” is the brainchild of original series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The order is for 26 episodes, which will be split into two books (seasons) of 13 episodes each.

“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation Ramsey Naito said of the news. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

An early description of the series was reveiled: “Set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

We’ll also be getting two new series on the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” YouTube channel. Expect an even bigger rollout of anniversary celebrations and goodies during San Diego Comic-Con in July.

That animated feature film focusing on Aang is still on track for a release sometime in 2026. You can catch the original animated series as well as the spinoff “Legend of Korra” on Netflix.
