david-s-goyer-image-416x600David S. Goyer writer/executive producer of the upcoming Constantine series from NBC was recently interviewed by IAmRogue.com about the show and what we can expect to see.

“We start shooting next week,” Goyer said. “We only have four series regulars but we’ve cast them all now. I’m proud to say that Constantine is actually being played by a British guy. Matt Ryan and he is going to have blond hair.”

Well at least we know he’ll have the signature blond hair, and an accent.  But what about the constant smoking?

“That’s a tricky one on network TV. We’re negotiating right now. He will have his signature trench coat and skinny tie. I would say that the show clings more closely to the source material than the film did. Even though the film was interesting.”

Fantastic!  Trench coat wearing blond haired accent having possibly chainsmoking sounds like a damn good start.  Goyer went on to say that the series would be more in line with the “Hellblazer” version of the character that fans already know and that plans are being made for additional DC characters to appear should the pilot be picked up for series.

“Quite a few other characters from the comic books and possibly from the DC universe, should we move forward, will be showing up…..I think we would try to bring in some of the other occult figures.”

You can watch the full video interview with Goyer below.

Set to star Matt Ryan as the titular character, “Constantine” will also feature Lucy Griffiths as Liv, Harold Perrineau as the angel Manny and Charles Halford as Constantine’s friend Chas. Written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Da Vinci’s Demons) and Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist), the pilot for Constantine which will be directed by The Descent and Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall.  (I’m also half expecting the theme and score for the series to be done by Emmy winning composer Bear McCreary, who won his statue for the main title sequence for Goyer’s Da Vinci’s Demons on Starz Network.)
