The First Family of Marvel Comics is finally getting an updated feature film, and we could not be more excited! Not only will this be the first time the Fantastic Four officially have their own film under Disney’s Marvel Studios banner, but it’s going to be a period piece!

Technically, “Fantastic Four” will be set in the 1960s, which is the perfect era for the story. Director Matt Shakman (“WandaVision“) has also revealed it’ll take place in an alternate timeline of the prime timeline. (Think “Loki” introducing the various branches of time and the TVA.)

This morning, Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us“), who will be playing Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the film, shared the first family photo with the rest of the main cast. Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown,” “Mission: Impossible“) is playing Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things,” “Gladiator II“) is playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear“) is Ben Grimm/The Thing.

We also know that Julia Garner (“Ozark,” “The Americans“) is playing Shalla Bal/The Silver Surfer. Paul Walter Hauser (“Blackbird“) was also recently added to the cast, but his role is also being kept underwraps.

“Fantastic Four” currently has a July 25th, 2025 release date, but we’re not sure if that’s likely to hold.

We expect to hear more about this and other upcoming Marvel Studios projects during the official SDCC 24 panel taking place on Saturday. Stay tuned for more news!
