“Sons of Anarchy” Star Almost Played Anakin Skywalker

Ah, the prequels. No need to tell you what we mean when we say that, right? You KNOW we mean “Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace,” and the two films that followed. What if we told you one of the stars from Kurt Sutter‘s “Sons of Anarchy” series was ALMOST a very important part of those prequels?

Charlie Hunnam, who most of us first met in “Queer as Folk,” but later went on to star in “Pacific Rim” and “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” apparently was in the running to play Anakin Skywalker in “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith.”

We…kind of need a minute to imagine Jax Teller wooing the Senator from Naboo.

This news comes directly from Hunnam himself, while doing press for Zack Snyder‘s “Rebel Moon– Part One: Child of Fire.”

“I just remember it being a very awkward meeting and walking out and thinking, ‘Well, I’m definitely not [getting the] role,’” Hunnam told Ash Crossan. “And I was correct. Sometimes it’s about the vibes. I felt like I was cheating on him a little bit, but it’s a different time for ‘Star Wars’ now, and I think it’s really exciting that we now have this period where there are other storytellers coming in and giving their take on the universe. But, of course, it all goes back to the maker. George Lucas is very much in the front of everyone’s mind when we’re making a decision and we want to make stuff that he would be happy with for sure.”

The job (obviously) went to Hayden Christensen, who fans recently got to see return to role in “Obi Wan Kenobi.”

“Rebel Moon” hits Netflix on December 22nd. Check out the interview snippet below:
