“This is Spinal Tap” Sequel to Start Filming in February!

Perhaps the greatest film ever told about rock n roll is getting an official sequel. We’re talking of course about the 1984 rockumentary about Britain’s loudest band, Spinal Tap. From director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner), the classic spoof-but-with-actual-music tells the tale of David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tuffnel (Christopher Guest), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and a rotating cast of drummers who meet untimely ends.

Guest stars include a very young (now SAG-AFTRA President) Fran Drechser, Paul Shaffer, Angelia Houston, Billy Crystal, Ed Begly Jr., and the late Fred Willard.

In May of 2022, an honest-to-goodness sequel was announced, with the main cast and Reiner returning. It’s been pretty quiet since then on the news front, until today. During a stop by the RHLSTP with Richard Herring podcast, Reiner offered an update on production, which is slated to kick off in February 2024.

“Everybody’s back,” Reiner said. “Paul McCartney is joining us, and Elton John. And a few other surprises, Garth Brooks.”

Sure, that seems like a small thing, BUT HOW COOL IS IT that we’re actually getting an official sequel?! We’ll obviously let you know what we hear about this and other news. Hopefully “This is Spinal Tap 2” won’t get a review like “Shark Sandwich” did.
