“Deadpool” Director Steps in for “Borderlands” Reshoots

It sounds like reshoots are needed for the upcoming live-action movie “Borderlands.” Based on the popular Gear Box video game series, Eli Roth (“Inglorious Basterds,” “Hostel“) directed the film, which wrapped production in June of 2021. Reshoots are really not an uncommon thing, and are not as sometimes reported a bad thing. Roth was reportedly unable to oversee the needed reshoots due to a new project, so “Deadpool” director Tim Miller stepped in to do it.

We DO know there were test screenings in November of 2022, so it’s likely something needed to be fine-tuned.

According to sources, it’s two weeks of reshoots. Pretty standard.

The film stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jack Black as Claptrap, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis, Kevin Hart as “Borderlands 2” character Roland (described as a skilled ex-soldier turned mercenary), Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu as Krieg, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Jack Black as Claptrap.

 “Chernobyl” scribe Craig Mazin wrote the most recent “Borderlands” script for the Lionsgate release.

We do know that Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford recently confirmed that Roth’s film would NOT be “identical” to the existing in-game universe, which was interesting.

“Borderlands” doesn’t have an updated release date yet, but Lionsgate seemed optimistic it would be sometime in 2023.
