Spider-Verse “Silk” TV Series Gets Showrunner, Heads to MGM+

Sounds like the Spider-Man adjacent “Silk” project about the Marvel Comics character is finally moving forward again. After first being announced back in 2018, the project evolved from a film to a tv series. Turns out Angela Kang, showrunner for “The Walking Dead,” is taking over “Silk.” It will apparently begin filming soon, and will air on MGM+.

First of all, what the heck is MGM+? It is what used to be EPIX, apparently. And while “Silk” will air first there, it will eventually hit Amazon after that. Considering Kang just signed a multi-year deal with Amazon, this makes sense.

“Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise has represented some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling in film,” head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke said of the news. “Together with Angela Kang’s creative vision, we couldn’t be more pleased to bring Silk: Spider Society to our MGM+ and Prime Video customers.”

“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career,” Kang said. “I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive in to my first challenge — bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.”

No word on who might be playing lead character Cindy Moon yet, but we’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
