    Henry Cavill’s Superman Likely to Return Thanks to The Rock

    It’s been a strange start of the week for Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Comics-based films. Not necessarily bad, but for sure, different. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s “Black Adam” anti-hero film is finally about to hit theaters, and with it comes news of what’s in the pipeline from WB.

    The most interesting bit of news to come from this week over at WB has to do with the Last Son of Krypton. A rumor pops up every few months that Henry Cavill would be returning as Superman in a solo sequel to “Man of Steel.” Usually, we sort of nod our heads and do a “Sure, Jan” response. But this time, it seems…real?


    As fans of Johnson’s know, his desire has been for Black Adam to face Superman in a fight. He’s talked about it several times, and has always been very upfront about wanting this. While it’s not happening in THIS film, it is being talked about seriously. There apparently is a Superman-centric stinger on the film, one we don’t want to spoil for you. But just know, it’s kicked the doors of a possible Cavill return wide open. That, and the fact that Johnson’s Seven Bucks Entertainment business partner (and former wife) Dani Garcia represents Cavill.

    Apparently the spoiler wasn’t originally in the film, and Johnson had to fight to get it. Specifically, he went to Walter Hamada, executive who made some pretty baffling choices in the grand scheme of the DCEU. Hamada said no to including anything Superman-related in “Black Adam.” So, Johnson went around him, and instead spoke to Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, heads of WB’s film devision. They said yes.

    Hamada’s no could have been because of his Ta-Nehisi Coates black Superman project. Or, because he just didn’t want to bother with another film. Today, Oct. 18th, is reportedly Hamada’s last day at WB. He did not attend the “Black Adam” premiere last week.

    So, while we don’t have a definitive green light on a new Cavill Superman project, it seems more likely than it did a year ago. Thanks, Dwayne. We’d love to see Henry Cavill back in the blue and red.

    “Black Adam” opens in theaters October 21st, 2022.
