We’re not even a week since Spring Forward and the return of Daylight Savings. Seriously. Most people’s clocks aren’t even adjusted yet, amiright? While a literal war is raging in Ukraine and Covid is still a very real concern, the US Senate just voted unanimously in favor of making Daylight Savings time permanent.
Called The Sunshine Protection Act, the proposed law would allow for one final “fall back” time change on November 20th in 2023 before March 2024’s permanent “spring forward.”
The bill was sponsored by Floridian Senator Marco Rubio (R). “There’s strong science behind it that is now showing and making people aware of the harm that clock switching has, there’s an increase in heart attacks, car accidents and pedestrian accidents,” Rubio said. He even claimed it would reduce crime in the evenings.
Its worth noting that Hawaii and most of the state of Arizona do not observe the annual time changes.
The Sunshine Protection Act will next make it’s way to the US House of Representatives.
