A brand-new trailer for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the much-beloved and borrowed-from-the-school-library series Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark reminds us that maybe, just maybe, law officials in small towns should be told to believe kids?

"Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" Trailer

You know that thing that happens in horror movies when adults never believe the kids? WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN. “No really officer, this book is making things come to life!” type of thing.

Anyhow, the new trailer has several of those scary things we’ve seen in teasers and posters, so, be warned.

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will be directed by André Øvredal, and is produced by Guillermo del Toro. It’ll star Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.

Expect to see it in theaters on August 9th 2019.
