Teddy Ruxpin Returns: Plans for Feature Film, TV Series Surface

Admittedly, this is not the 80s icon we were expecting to mount a return. Teddy Ruxpin, the huggable casettetape-playing bear, is making a comeback in a huge way. Production company DJ2 Entertainment, who recently saw success with their adaptations of popular video games, has acquired the rights for Ruxpin.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DJ2 is eyeing a live-action animated hybrid film, sorta kinda like their most recent release, “Sonic The Hedgehog” for Paramount Pictures. There are also plans for an animated series.

In 1986, there was a cartoon series titled “The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin,” which you can actually watch for free via The Roku Channel.

Dmitri M. Johnson, DJ2 founder and CEO, said of the announcement: “I’m no hunter, but I’ve been tracking this bear for at least seven years. It’s no exaggeration to say that the time I spent enraptured by the stories Teddy Rux told me is a large part of why I chose a career in entertainment.  So, thanks Teddy — and, of course, thanks, mom.”

But the real question is- will they have Teddy play Black Sabbath?!

We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
