Mary Anne Butler (Mab) got her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine as a teenager. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (News Editor), Nerdbot (as Editor-In-Chief), and now [Bad]Influencers, where she is Editor-in-Chief. Over the past 15 years, she’s built a well-known reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band. She also produces award-winning immersive events, including Wasteland Weekend and Neotropolis.

ComicsOnline interview with BSG Allum Kandyse McClure talking about her new show, Netflix Origonal Series “Hemlock Grove”, based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same title. Ms. McClure took some time out of her schedule to speak to Mab: this phone call is being recorded Mab:  I love how nice it is to let us know it’s being recorded. Kandyse:  It’s so nice, you know.  It must be Canadian. *laughs* Mab:  Exactly, but it doesn’t say “EH”! Kandyse:  *laughs*  Well you know, we don’t ALL say “eh”.  It’s a never north eastern Canadian thing.  like the way Minnesotans….well you…

Mab and Bill got the chance to be in on a press call for SyFy original series Blood & Chrome, which airs on the network Sunday 2-10-13 at 8pm pst, and talk to two of the stars.  Luke Pasqualino plays a young cadet Pilot William Adama, and Ben Cotton who plays Raptor ECO Coker Fasjovik.  Pasqualino is actually English, and there is something really awesome about hearing him say “Ba-ill-star” as opposed to “Ba-tt-lestar”. (And I will say, only one of these questions came from  me personally. Several of the reporters in on the call were asking either the same question, or questions easily answered…

The Monday after the season finale for The Walking Dead, ComicsOnline was able to get in on a press junkett interview with Chad L. Coleman, who plays Tyreese on The Walking Dead. He had a starring role on the HBO series The Wire as reformed criminal Denise “Cutty” Wise. In 2002, Coleman starred as O.J. Simpson in TNT’s television movie Monday Night Mayhem. Chad also had a role in the Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles  TV series on Fox. He also had a small role in Carlito’s Way: Rise To Power. He has recently been involved in the development of Left 4 Dead 2 as voice actor for the character Coach.[1] In…

by Mary Anne Butler, Reporter The earliest superhero I remember becoming emotionally attached to was Christopher Reeve as Superman during the flight sequence with Lois in Richard Donner’s ’78 film. There was something about him, his innocence and strength, that made my very young self completely enthralled with that red cape and curl of power. Hollywood loves their franchises, their reboots, and their skewing of the lore we as fans surround our figures with. Changing back stories? Do it the right way with nods to the past and you might possibly avoid “BETRAYING THE STORY” lobbyists  like JJ did with his Trek ’09 and…

by Mary Anne Butler, Reporter I recently got to have a nice chat via Skype with Mr. Hoon Lee, voice of Splinter on the newest version of TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) on Nickelodeon. (What follows is a transcription of the audio, since we seemed to have a slight issue with levels): Mab: Mary Anne Butler from ComicsOnline, talking to Hoon Lee, voice of Splinter on the new animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon. How are you doing today? Hoon Lee: I’m good! Mab: I’ll totally admit to being a Turtles fan when I was growing up! HL: Good!…

By Mary Anne Butler (Mab), photographer and reporter ComicsOnline’s Mab writes from her hotel room during Atlanta’s DragonCon 2012: SATURDAY. You know what that means? The DragonCon parade! I started my morning interviewing (one on one) Jamie Bamber, audio to be edited once we’re back home. And for us, it meant walking uphill several blocks while keeping pace with Buffy producer Jane Espenson.  Also got to say good morning to smiling handsome non-fury footed former hobbit, Billy Boyd as he walked past us, news paper in hand. Grand marshalls this year included Stan Lee, Lou Ferrigno, George Perez, James Randi, and…

by Mary Anne Butler (Mab), photographer and reporter ComicsOnline’s Mab writes from her hotel room during Atlanta’s DragonCon 2012: Wow, it feels like an entire week has passed already, but in a VERY good way! So many panels and photoshoots and too few hours in the day. Doesn’t help due to a miscommunication on our travel person’s part we had to shift hotels for the remainder of our stay- meaning no more DCTV while we’re here. It also meant we had to miss a block of things to reset all of our camera gear, and personal suitcases and such. I…

by Mary Anne Butler (Mab), photographer and reporter ComicsOnline’s Mab writes from her hotel room on the first day of Atlanta’s DragonCon 2012: Here we sit for our third trip to DragonCon, north America’s second largest media-fandom convention. As a fan of Cosplay-cosplayers, this is the MECCA. I’d always wanted to attend, this desire kindled largely by seeing the “Dawn look-a-like” contest recaps on the back page of Wizard magazine every year. I first attended D*C before San Diego Comic Con (SDCC). The sheer amount of friendly people willing to answer newb questions, give directions and offer advice gave…
