“HALO” is Ambitious World-Building Worth a Watch

At last, the live-action “Halo” series is due out this month. While in development in various ways for over 10 years, Paramount+ eventually became the home for the project. Based on the ever popular game series first created by Bungie (now run by 343 Industries), this is more than just a sci-fi show.

Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, “HALO” Paramount+

It’s hard to really describe what audiences are in for. Without spoilers, the trailers will prepare you. You’ll see human rebels, Spartans, and the Covenant. There are massive guns, explosions galore, and enough intrigue to keep you glued to your seat.

A deep, deep mythos is at play here in the struggle of a military corporation and those who oppose them. If you feel lost, don’t worry- you’re not alone. But stick with it, it’ll make sense as the series goes.

The best part, for me at least, is the incredible production design and costuming. Within the first 10 minutes, the rebel outpost on Madrigal feels like a living (albeit barely), breathing location. The attention to detail with distressing and textures of garments are absolutely top notch.

The history of Master Chief (played by Pablo Schreiber) will be explored throughout the series. Episodes 1 and 2 touch on various elements of John-117’s past; flashbacks and teases of secrets to come.

Yes, you’ll see Cortana. Yes, you’ll see the High Prophet of Truth, High Prophets Mercy and Regret too.

“Halo” premieres on Paramount+ on March 24th, 2022. It’s currently listed at 9 episodes, down from an initial count of 10.
